The 16th arrondissement is the largest arrondissement in Paris with a land area of 4,029 acres. It is located on the right bank of the Seine River and stretches across a wide swathe of the capital’s northwestern border.

Getting There

To get to the sixteenth district, take line 1 or 9 on the Paris metro to the Trocadero, Les Sablons and Passy stops. Most popular attractions places of interest in the district are within walking distance of these stops.

Although the sixteenth district lives up its reputation as a posh residential area, it does boast an array of attractions that are worth visiting. Here are some of the top things to do and see when visiting Paris:

1. Passy Cemetery

This is one of the oldest operating cemeteries in the French capital. It was opened in 1820 and by 1874 it had become the aristocratic necropolis of Paris. The Passy Cemetery is sheltered by a bower of horse chestnut trees and offers spectacular views of the Eiffel Tower. It is a great spot for anyone who wants some reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the central Paris.

Famous people buried in this cemetery include impressionist Berther Morisot and Edouard Manet, Bao Dai the last emperor of Vietnam, actress Jane Henriot, aircraft designer Henry Farman and Princess Leila Pahlavi.

2. Jardin d’Acclimatation

The Jardin d'Acclimatation is a kid amusement park situated in the northern part of the Bois de Boulogne. It features a gaggle of attractions, an animal farm, antique games, lounging areas and plenty of lush greenery. The nice thing about this park is that it is free for both kids and adults.

3. Fondation Louis Vuitton

This is an art museum and cultural centre sponsored by Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation and its subsidiaries. It was designed by the architect Frank Gehry and is a stone’s throw away from the Jardin d'Acclimatation.

Fondation Louis Vuitton comprises an auditorium, 11 galleries that hold unique contemporary work and multilevel roof terraces for hosting events and art installations.

4. Palais de Chaillot

Palais de Chaillot is a monumental building that was built for the 1937 Universal Exposition. It is at the top of the Chaillot hill and offers exceptional views of the Eiffel tower. The building currently accommodates an aquarium, the Theatre Nationale du Chaillot and three museums - the Musée de l’Homme, the Musée national de la Marine and the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine.
